New Music Fest sponsored by Rock 95 kicked off last night in Barrie with performances from The Trews and Big Sugar at The Ranch. I was probably one of the first people to get tickets to this show, I love The Trews. This was the third time I have seen them and they just keep getting better every time.
The Trews opened for Big Sugar in a big way playing every hit they have. The crowd was instantly thrown into a frenzy and didn't stop until they finished their electrifying set.
It didn't take long for the switch over for Big Sugar and good thing because it was really starting to heat up in there. With the show sold out we were packed in like sardines. I again was right up front sweltering under the lights but there really is no other way to see the show. Gordie from Big Sugar came out to amazing fan fair. If I was ever a rock star I would want The Trews to open for me. They played an alright set, it sounded good but I didn't think it was too spectacular.
I was very impressed with the band. I know that Gordie is an great musician but you have to give it to his band as well. Kelly Hoppe was great, very talented and so versatile. He honestly played maybe 10 different instruments last night.
After the Big Sugar set The Trews came out to play with Big Sugar as well, both bands up on stage playing the whole Heated album and then some. Some is an understatement as they played almost to last call non-stop. What an awesome concert to kick off an awesome weekend of great music.
